A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 12

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 12
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times. You shall keep them, O Lord, You shall preserve them from this generation forever (Psalm 12:6-7).

God’s word is the true, real, unmixed, morally righteous, authentic, clean, holy, absolute truth!

His Word:
Rely upon it. It is reliable!
Trust in it. It is trustworthy!
Depend upon it. It is dependable!
Look upon it. It is light!
Feed upon it. It is bread!
Stand upon it. It is a rock!
Build upon it. It is unshakable!
Walk upon it. It will never mislead!
Meditate upon it. It is wisdom!
Gaze upon it. It is wondrous!
Be in agreement with it. It is without error!

His Word will bring—
blessing to those who follow its commands.
cleansing to those who apply it’s purity.
victory to those who hide it in their heart.
delight to those who listen to its counsel.
strength to those who trust its promises.
teaching to those who learn its ways.
hope to those who receive its comfort.
insight to those who apply its wisdom.
riches to those who value its worth.
character to those who yield to its authority.

Insight: When you read the Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding. It is a supernatural, living book that only the Holy Spirit can make alive in you!

Insight: Bathe in Scriptures’ precepts, they will wash you cleaner than any soap.

Insight: The Bible is a musical book. Its words can come off its pages and dance around in your heart.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 11

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 11
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”? (Psalm 11:1,7).

Don’t deposit your trust in someone’s heart who doesn’t know what to do with it. God’s heart is the perfect “putting place” for your trust. It’s the shelter to keep it in, the secret place to hide it in, and the secure place to keep it in. God will never fail you, never leave you, and never mistreat you.

· Every day you are in His thoughts.
· His eye is upon you.
· He made you for Himself.
· He knows you.

I Know…
I know your heart.
I know you. I understand.
I am familiar with all your ways.
I see. I hear.
I know your deepest desires.
I know your voice. I listen when you call.
I know the plans I have for you.
I know where you are. I know your needs.
I know what you have walked through—
I know the valleys and the storms—
I have walked with you through each one.
I know your tears. Your joys. Your celebrations.
I know all you do in my name.
I notice. I care.
It pleases me when you trust in me.

Insight: Trust…it bolts the door whenever worry comes knocking and wants to come in.

Insight: Who has said, “Trust Me”?
He who is faithful.
He who cares.
He who is your loving Heavenly Father.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 10

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 10
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble? The Lord is King forever and ever; The nations have perished out of His land. Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear, To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, That the man of the earth may oppress no more (Psalm 10:1, 16-18).

This psalm is a reminder that it is easy for the natural mind to get things wrong about who God is, what He knows, and what He will do.

God isn’t far away, He has not gone into hiding, He is not clueless, and He is not indifferent. God sees and knows all things. He knows what everyone has done and why they did it.

When we experience injustice from others, God’s invitation to us is not to go after them to get even, but to come to Him and place the matter in His hands. God is the righteous judge and brings perfect justice. He will always get it right.

Come To Me
When you are hurting,
come to Me and I will bind your wounds.
When you need to be assured,
come to Me and I will give you My embrace.
When you can no longer go on,
come to Me and I will carry you.
When you need comfort,
come to Me and I will wipe your tears.
When you are uncertain of My love,
come to Me and I will speak My heart to you.
Always remember that in your need
you are coming to Jesus, the One who came for you.

Insight: We can all be relieved that God has not called us to be the judge of all the earth. He will do that, and He does all things well.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 9

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 9
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High (Psalm 9:1-2).

While most people observe you from the outside, God is observing your heart.

Here are a few things He is looking at:
  • Is your heart fixed.
  • Is your heart grateful.
  • Is your heart unmixed.
  • Is your heart fully trusting.

God’s will for us is to be wholehearted in our response to Him. That doesn’t mean things have to be done flawlessly—it means we are enthusiastic in our response instead of droopy, disinterested, or disappointed. Wholehearted obedience will never carry a “poor me” state of mind.

Insight: When you sing unto the Lord from your heart, He is not concerned if you are off key.

Insight: When the Lord has your whole heart He will also have your attention, interest, and commitment.

Insight: Joy doesn’t walk hand-in-hand with half-heartedness.
.......

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 8

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 8
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.
O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth (Psalm 8:1, 9)!

Growing up, I never liked my name. It was too short and didn’t mean anything. One day I took the first letter of my middle name (Allan) and the first letter of my last name (Lessin), joined them to my first name and came up with Royal. I didn’t change my name to Royal, but I liked the meaning!

I love every name God has! The Scriptures are packed with them. He has a multitude of names because they help us understand who He is and what He does. His name is honorable, powerful, noble, and glorious.

Here are a few examples of names only God can be called:
  • Elohim-The triune Creator.
  • El Shaddai-The One with all power. The Almighty.
  • Adonai-The Lord with absolute authority.
  • Jehovah-Raah-The Lord your Shepherd.
  • Jehovah Rapha-The Lord who heals you.
  • Jehovah Tsidkenu-The Lord your righteousness.
  • Jehovah Shalom-The Lord your perfect peace.

Meditate upon His names and your faith will grow.
There is salvation because there is a Savior.
There is healing because there is a Healer.
There is comfort because there is a Comforter.
There is help because there is a Helper.
There is provision because there is a Provider.

Insight: When you have the Lord, you have it all, because HE is all you need.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 7

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 7
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds. My defense is of God,Who saves the upright in heart. God is a just judge (Psalm 7:9-11).

Discipline, correction, and training are some of the good things God does to His children. If God left you alone it would mean two things:

  1. You weren’t His child.
  2. You were His child, but He didn’t love you.
God is your Father. He is a righteous Father. He pays attention to you. Your character is important to Him. He is daily conforming you into the image of His Son. You are His ambassador in a lost world, and His light in a darkened world.

As God’s child keep these things in mind:
  • God isn’t being mean when He wants you to be clean.
  • It’s always easier to nip something in the bud than to let it grow into a full grown tree.
  • Thank God daily that you can know the freedom and joy of being clean.
Insight: Your hardest day as a child of God is better than your easiest day as an orphan.

Insight: God’s righteousness means that everything God does in your life is the right thing. If He were unrighteous, everything God did in your life would be the wrong thing.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 6

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 6
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer. Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled;Let them turn back and be ashamed (Psalms 6:8-10).

What an amazing, caring God and Father we love and serve.

He is all knowing and He knows you.
He is all powerful and He will act in your behalf.
He is all present and will always hear your call.

His compassion will not fail you.
When you weep He will collect your tears.
He understands the meaning of every cry
that comes from the deepest part of who you are.

Insight: The prayers that come from your heart will never confuse Him, annoy Him, or leave Him bewildered.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 5

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 5
Restore, Renew and Refresh
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face…. Let those also who love Your name be joyful in You. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield (Psalm 5:8,11-12).

Those who follow God’s path have so much to gain:

  • The clarity of His guidance.
  • The wisdom of His ways.
  • The influence of His favor.

Those who do not follow God’s path have so much to lose:

  • The shield of His covering.
  • The benefits of His blessing.
  • The strength of His joy.

It’s a good thing to have certain things settled in your heart. “God leads and I follow” is one of those things. It means your feet will walk on straight paths, right paths, and meaningful paths. It means you won’t walk around in circles, busy but never getting anywhere.

Insight: There is never a path in God’s will for your life that leads you to a dead end. Nothing in His will is wasted.

Insight: Don’t look for shortcut signs on God’s path. However, there is a “One Way” sign.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 4

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 4
Restore, Renew and Refresh
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer…The Lord has set apart for Himself the one who is godly; The Lord will hear when I call to Him…put your trust in the Lord. Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. You have put gladness in my heart…I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety (Psalm 4:1,3,5-8).

Early one morning I noticed my wife was acting strange. She was incoherent and had difficulty speaking. I became uneasy and concerned, but didn’t know what to do. I had never called 911 before, but decided this was the time. Within minutes, five paramedics showed up at our door.

They immediately went to work asking questions and checking vital signs. It didn’t take them long to get her into their ambulance and rush her to the hospital, 45 minutes away. She was having a heart attack!

When they arrived, she was immediately taken to the operating room. After a successful operation the surgeon told us, “If she hadn’t arrived when she did, she would have died.”

When we’re in distress and call out for help, what a comfort it is to know there is someone close enough to hear us, qualified enough to know what to do, and able enough to provide the help we need!

Insight: God is an ever present help. He is truly your first responder.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 3

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 3
Restore, Renew and Refresh
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Lord, how they have increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me. Many are they who say of me, “There is no help for him in God.” Selah But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around. Arise, O Lord; Save me, O my God!…Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people (Psalm 3:1-6,8).

It is important to remember that anytime you hear the voice of the enemy speaking against God, you are hearing a lie.

The voice of the enemy is spoken to create fear, doubt, worry, and bondage within you. God’s voice always speaks truth. His voice is spoken to create peace, faith, trust, and freedom within you.

God IS your help.
God IS a shield for you.
God IS your glory.
God IS the One who lifts your head high.
God IS the One who hears and answers your call.
God IS your sustainer.
God IS your courage.
God IS your salvation.
God IS your blessing.

Insight: Because you belong to God, everything He is belongs to you!

Insight: God’s truth will build you up, bind you up, stir you up, lift you up, and hold you up.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 2

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 2
Restore, Renew and Refresh
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him (Psalm 2:10-12).

Disappointment. Surprise. Frustration. Failure.

Shock. Hurt. Fear. Worry. Insecurity.

Why are these words in our vocabulary? They exist because no one has absolute control over their lives or circumstances. Kings don’t, rulers don’t, executives don’t, the wealthy don’t, and the influential don’t. You don’t, and I don’t. We can make big plans, for good reasons, have an abundance of resources and still fail.

There is only one thing that can settle us and quiet our hearts in our journey through an uncertain world. It is TRUST. Not trust in something, but trust in someone. The One who holds everything together!

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist (Colossians 1:16-17).

Insight: When evil nations make evil plans against God and His people, God is not troubled. He has already determined who will sit in judgment over the nations. We don’t see it yet, but all things are under Jesus’ feet. He will have the final say.

When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.  All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides sheep from the goats (Matthew 25:31-32).

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 1

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 1
Restore, Renew and Refresh
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Blessed is the one who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper…For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish (Psalm 1:1-3,6).

What word would best define the motivation of your heart as you follow the Lord in 2026? Here is one I’d like to suggest…Approval. What an amazing year you would have if you sought God’s approval in every decision you made and every attitude you carried.

Seeking God’s approval is not a fear thing, but a love thing. It is one of the highest motivations of love. That’s how Jesus lived. Daily, when Jesus got up to meet the day, He only wanted to do what pleased His Father (John 8:29).

Psalm 1 gives us several insights into what pleases God and brings His blessing to our lives:

  • Rejecting the counsel of those who don’t know God’s mind.
  • Removing ourselves from relationships with those who don’t desire to do God’s will.
  • Refusing to express the attitudes of those who don’t want to know God’s heart.
  • Rejoicing in God’s absolute truth and righteous precepts.
  • Reflecting upon all that God has revealed in His holy word.

Insight: Having God’s approval doesn’t mean you will always have the approval of others.

Insight: Living a life that displeases the Lord will not produce a favorable or fruitful outcome.

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms in 2026

Blessings in the Year Ahead!
Restore, Renew and Refresh in the Psalms

Come rest with Me in pastures green,
Step into the waters of My healing stream;
Through shadowed valleys and mountains steep
I will never forsake, nor leave my sheep.
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Dear Friends of Meeting in the Meadow,

What a blessing it is for Marina and I to have you visit us and be part of our encouragement family. It’s hard to believe Meeting in the Meadow will have been posting Bible based devotions for ten years this October!

In 2026 it is our desire to focus upon the Psalms. We will begin the New Year next week with three postings (MWF), each one featuring a devotion from different verses from the book of Psalms.
There are so many treasures to discover that will enrich our daily walk with Jesus.

We hope to visit the still waters and green pastures of the Psalms together—restoring, renewing and refreshing us as we rest in them. We also want to welcome you to share this with your friends and family from our website (meetinginthemeadow.com), and our social media spaces on Facebook and Instagram.

Thank you so much for continuing with us in this journey. We thank God for you!

-Roy Lessin
