A Devotional Journey Through the
Psalms: Psalm 4
Restore, Renew and Refresh
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow
Hear me when I call, O God of my
righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear
my prayer…The Lord has set apart for Himself the one who is godly; The Lord
will hear when I call to Him…put your trust in the Lord. Lord, lift up the
light of Your countenance upon us. You have put gladness in my heart…I will
both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety
(Psalm 4:1,3,5-8).
Early one morning I noticed my wife
was acting strange. She was incoherent and had difficulty speaking. I became
uneasy and concerned, but didn’t know what to do. I had never called 911
before, but decided this was the time. Within minutes, five paramedics showed
up at our door.
They immediately went to work
asking questions and checking vital signs. It didn’t take them long to get her
into their ambulance and rush her to the hospital, 45 minutes away. She was
having a heart attack!
When they arrived, she was
immediately taken to the operating room. After a successful operation the
surgeon told us, “If she hadn’t arrived when she did, she would have died.”
When we’re in distress and call out
for help, what a comfort it is to know there is someone close enough to hear
us, qualified enough to know what to do, and able enough to provide the help we
need!
Insight: God is an ever present help. He is
truly your first responder.
