Part 31: Knowing His Best...Walking in Rest

Part 31: Knowing His Best...Walking in Rest
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Knowing His Best...
I cannot think of anyone more unworthy to this cause than I, the least of the least of the saints. But here I am, a grace-made man, privileged to be an echo of His voice and a preacher to all the nations of the riches of the Anointed One, riches that no one ever imagined.  Ephesians 3:8 (VOICE)

Walking in Rest!
Rest in the riches of all you have in Christ. Because you are in Him, you have received grace and gifts (Ephesians 4:7, 8), a hope laid up in heaven (Colossians 1:5), been made a partaker of the inheritance of the saints (Colossians 1:27), been delivered from the power of darkness (Colossians 1:13), been delivered from the wrath to come (1 Thessalonians 1:10), received an everlasting consolation and good hope (2 Thessalonians 2:16), been given the Spirit of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7), His word effectively working in you (1 Thessalonians 2:13), a crown of righteousness laid up for you (2 Timothy 4:8), been given great and precious promises (2 Peter 1:4), been given fellowship with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3).

My Morning Prayer: A Prayer of Freedom

My Morning Prayer: A Prayer of Freedom
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Promise
The Lord who made you and helps you says: Do not be afraid, O Jacob, My servant, O dear Israel, My chosen one. For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children. They will thrive like watered grass, like willows on a riverbank.
Isaiah 44:2-4 NLT

Prayer
My Father, what a wonderful God You are. My children (and I) are handmade by You. You are our designer. You are our helper and keeper. I ask that we will never doubt, question, or wonder who we are, where we came from, or where we are going.

May we live free of fear—safe from its bondage, kept from its paralyzing grip, protected from everything that would terrify and hinder us from experiencing all that You have for us. May our hearts be full of expectancy and assurance, knowing that You have set us free.

Pour out upon each of us Your abundant mercies, Your abundant grace, Your abundant goodness, Your abundant blessings, Your abundant love. May we always drink from Your fountain of joy; wash in the river of Your mercies; be touched by Your refreshing rains. Quench our thirsty souls, water the garden of our hearts, keep our spirits in Your healing streams. Cause us to thrive, flourish, and prosper in life and in our relationship with You.

We Have Seen His Glory, Part 12: Praise Him

We Have Seen His Glory, Part 12: Praise Him
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess His name. Hebrews 13:15 NIV

Jesus Christ, God incarnate, the Word made flesh, the babe in the manger—
Adore Him.

The pearl of greatest price, the heart’s greatest treasure, life’s greatest joy—
Seek Him.

The Redeemer, the Savior, the Sacrificial Lamb—
Thank Him.

The Conqueror, the Resurrection and the Life, the coming King—
Praise Him.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory…” John 1:14 NIV

...

This concludes our series, We Have Seen His Glory. We pray that you've been blessed as we have put our focus on God and the glory of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. May you have a blessed Christmas celebration, and a Happy New Year!

We Have Seen His Glory, Part 11: Praise Him
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

If anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. Philippians 4:8 NIV

To think upon Jesus opens the door to a vast chamber of thoughts that are praiseworthy. There is not a single thought about Jesus that will bring you regret or embarrassment, and there is not a single remembrance of what He has done for you that will bring you shame. There is nothing in His character that brings disappointment, and there is nothing in His nature that brings hurt. Think about His ministry and you find a servant; think about His wonders and you see the mighty hand of God; think about His blessings and you discover His compassion; think about His tenderness and you see His Shepherd’s heart.

Think about Jesus’ names and your thoughts will lead your heart into ceaseless praise.

He is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, and The Prince of Peace. He is our Banner, Rock, Foundation, High Priest, Redeemer, Deliverer, Healer, Savior, King, Lord, and Master. He is the Bread of Life, The Way, The Truth, The Word, The Dayspring, and The Bright and Morning Star. He is the Seed of David, The Lion of Judah, Messiah, The Alpha and Omega, The Lord of all.

We Have Seen His Glory, Part 10: Praise Him

We Have Seen His Glory, Part 10: Praise Him
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise! Revelation 5:12 NIV

Praise is the heart’s celebration of the victory that Jesus Christ has won. He faced Satan and defeated him, He faced temptation and resisted it, He faced suffering and overcame it, He faced death and defeated it, and He faced the grave and triumphed over it.

Once, Jesus was wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manager; now He is seated on a throne. Once, rulers rejected him; now He is at His Father’s right hand. Once, He was despised and rejected; now He is exalted and glorified. Once, He was the suffering servant; now He is the triumphant King.

Jesus Christ is the only one worthy of all praise. There is no name that is higher than His, there is no throne that is greater than His, and there is no kingdom that is mightier than His. He is worthy because His righteousness is indisputable, His redemptive work is irrefutable, His glory is incomparable, and His majesty is undeniable.

We Have Seen His Glory, Part 9: Thank Him

We Have Seen His Glory, Part 9: Thank Him
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32 NIV

Once, before the foundations of the world, Jesus and His Father had a conversation about the great plan of redemption. That conversation included you. Jesus looked down the corridors of time and knew that you would be born. He saw you when He said to His Father, “I will go.”

What an incredible journey He made; what an overwhelming expression of love He made; what an awesome purpose He had in mind. You were on His heart. When He left His home in heaven He saw you; When He became a man on earth He was seeking you; When He stretched out His hands upon the cross He was reaching out to you; When He returned to His Father He was preparing a place for you. You are the sheep He has come to shepherd, to guide, to feed, to protect, to shelter, and to carry. You are the one He calls His own.

We Have Seen His Glory: Part 8, Thank Him

We Have Seen His Glory: Part 8, Thank Him
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! 2 Corinthians 9:15 NIV

Years ago a famous hymn writer, Charles Wesley, looked with the eyes of faith upon the cross where Jesus died, and in response, His thankful heart wrote these words:

“And can it be that I should gain an interest in the Savior's blood?

Died He for me, who caused His pain--for me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?”

Other verses followed and when he came to the chorus his gratitude reached this crescendo: “Long my imprisoned spirit lay Fast bound in sin and nature's night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray,--I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
my chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.”

Every heart that touches Jesus Christ is never the same. It is a heart that is filled with an endless stream of thankfulness; it is a heart that has been immersed in the river of divine love; and it is a heart that flows with a thousand expressions of joy.

We Have Seen His Glory: Part 7, Thank Him

We Have Seen His Glory: Part 7, Thank Him
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NIV

God sent His Son into the world, not to have fun or to be comfortable, but to suffer and die. His death was not a martyr’s death. His life wasn’t taken from Him. He offered it up freely. He didn’t die for a cause. He died for us. That one truth alone gives each person on earth a reason to get up every morning with a thankful heart.

Think of it, Jesus did more than die for the world…He did more than die for your neighbor…He died for you. He died forsaken, so that you would never need to be alone; He died beaten, so that you could be made whole; He died broken, so that your heart could be mended. His death brought you life, His poverty brought you riches, His judgment brought you mercy, and His pain brought you healing. His humility lifted you up, His obedience made you an heir, and His blood washed you whiter than snow.

We Have Seen His Glory: Part 6, Seek Him

We Have Seen His Glory: Part 6, Seek Him
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 NIV

In this world there are things we desire and things we need. Houses, clothing, food, and transportation all fall under the category of “things.” Things are not evil or sinful but they are temporary. They have no eternal value. The gifts we unwrap at Christmas will one day find their way to a trash bag or a yard-sale table. The wise men from the East knew the difference between what was temporal and what was eternal. They left their homes and families to seek the Pearl of Greatest Price. They wanted to see and know for themselves the Eternal Word that became flesh and dwelt among us.

The value of finding Jesus Christ is beyond measure. His worth is more than a field filled with diamonds, He is a limitless treasure chest of priceless gems and precious stones; He is more than a mineshaft filled with gold nuggets, He is an endless vein of pure gold. His splendor is more glorious than a thousand sunsets, and His majesty is nobler than all the kings who have ever reigned.  His grace is greater than our arms can embrace, His beauty is more than our eyes can behold, His love is deeper than our hearts can explore. How truly great is the reward of the one who seeks Him.

We Have Seen His Glory: Seek Him, Part 5

We Have Seen His Glory: Seek Him, Part 5
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you look for Him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deut. 4:29 NIV

To seek Jesus is to seek reality. He not only has directions for us to follow, but He is the pathway upon which we travel; He not only has things to say to us, but He is the Truth we seek to know; He not only has the answers for our existence, but He is the Eternal Life that we so desperately seek.

A glorious truth of Scripture is the certainty that if we seek after the Lord we will not be disappointed. Seekers are finders. The beauty of God’s promise is what we find and Who we find as the result of our seeking.  We not only find peace, but we also find the Prince of Peace; we not only find righteousness, but we also find the Righteous One; we not only find counsel, but we also find the Counselor; we not only find wonders, but we also find the Wonderful One; we not only find spiritual food, but we also find the Bread of Life; we not only find provision, but we also find the Shepherd of our souls; we not only find salvation, but we also find the Savior; we not only find the Kingdom, but we also find the King.

We Have Seen His Glory: Seek Him, Part 4

We Have Seen His Glory: Seek Him, Part 4
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem. Matthew 2:1 KJV

The wise men came from the east. It was probably Daniel who first brought the truth of the Scriptures to the rulers and priests of this part of the world.  The wise men were not called that because they had great wisdom. Their name meant “magi”, mystical seekers and searchers. They really didn’t have the answers to man’s spiritual needs, but they did want to find the answers.

The greatest revelation that came to the wise men was the discovery that the answers they sought were not to be found in pagan practices, but in a person.  They left behind the darkness of the Medes and Persians as they followed the light of His star; they left behind the rituals and reasonings of man as they sought the true Wisdom of God; they left behind the practices of magic and sorcery as they looked for the One true Master; they left behind the vanity and idolatry of corrupt rulers as they journeyed to worship the new born King.

We Have Seen His Glory: Adore Him, Part 3

We Have Seen His Glory: Adore Him, Part 3
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

When God brings His firstborn into the world, He says, "Let all God's angels worship Him." Hebrews 1:6 NIV

Angels are magnificent heavenly beings that fulfill God’s will, and fill us with amazement. We are overcome with their greatness, their glory, and their service. When we read of their works throughout Scripture we stagger at their strength and power, we marvel at their words and authority, and we tremble at their greatness and awesomeness.

As magnificent as angels are, their glory pales in the light of Jesus Christ. Their greatness is but a shadow compared to the One whose splendor outshines the sun; their service is but a gesture when we look upon Him who came to serve and give His life as a ransom for many; their works are but tiny tokens of God’s goodness compared to the redemptive work of Christ upon the cross; their strength and power wane as we look upon Him who is seated at the right of the Father; their words and authority take a minor role compared to Him who is the Word become flesh, Emanuel, God with us.

We Have Seen His Glory: Adore Him, Part 2

We Have Seen His Glory: Adore Him, Part 2
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;  Psalm 95:6 NIV

Worship is so much more than singing choruses, playing musical instruments, or lifting our hands in praise. Worship is not found in the loudness of our voices, but in the meekness of our spirits; not in the beat of our music, but in the bending of our knees; not in our outward gestures, but in our yielded hearts.

Worship is not created in us by talking, reading, hearing, or singing about Jesus. Worship is created in us as Jesus is made real to us. To know Him, to really know Him, throws the doors of worship wide open. Worship is about Jesus. His beauty. His glory. His majesty. His loveliness. When our hearts see Jesus we worship—we can’t help ourselves.
