A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 64

A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 64
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow

The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him. And all the upright in heart shall glory (Psalm 64:10).

After revealing all the turbulence that the enemy has brought against his battered soul, David is able to conclude Psalm 64 with another smooth landing upon the runway of trust.

Whenever you experience heavy turbulence from the enemy of your soul, there will always be a runway of trust where you can peacefully land, be refreshed, and refuel.

Because trust is so important to our daily walk as followers of Christ, we will often be tempted by the enemy of our souls to become doubters instead of believers. Like David, heavy turbulence can batter our minds, our thoughts, and our emotions.

Our enemy is an accuser and he will use false accusations against God’s character to attempt to have us withdraw our full and complete trust in the Lord. Our enemy is also a liar and he will attempt to have us question God’s words and promises while pointing us towards things that appear to be trustworthy, fulfilling, and dependable.

Be fully aware of the enemy’s schemes:

  • To keep us from trusting the Lord as our provider, the enemy will point us towards financial security as a wiser plan and a better option.
  • To keep us from trusting the Lord as our sufficiency, the enemy will point us to imposters who appear to have it all together but in reality have nothing to offer but an image.
  • To keep us from trusting the Lord as our Shepherd, the enemy will point us to those who will lead us in the wrong direction and who know nothing of the Lord’s green pastures and still waters.
  • To keep us from trusting the Lord as our wisdom, the enemy will point us to those who have not the mind of Christ, yet claim to have the answers to life’s toughest questions.
  • To keep us from trusting the Lord as our peace, the enemy will point us to temporary substitutes and quick fixes that fix nothing, and bring addictions that hinder, bind and destroy.
  • To keep us from trusting the Lord as our vindicator, the enemy will point us to anger, revenge, bitterness and resentment to get even with those who have hurt us or tried to harm us.
Insight: Putting your trust in the Lord will never disrupt the peace of God in your heart, never bring confusion to your mind, and never leave you at the place of disappointment when you reach the finish line in your journey of faith.
