A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 68

You, O God, sent a plentiful rain,
Whereby You confirmed Your inheritance,
When it was weary (Psalm 68:9).
 
Verse 9 brought me back to a time of weariness in my life, and thankfully, to a time of refreshing as well. I had been writing cards and creating new products for DaySpring for twenty years when things began to dry up. I wondered if it was time to leave my job and look for something new. Instead, I took a new position at DaySpring within their catalog division.
 
After three months of writing catalog copy, I was still unsure about my future. One day, a catalog marketing specialist visited us. She recommended that our catalog start offering premiums to motivate shoppers to place larger orders. She suggested the first premium be a 100 page devotional book. She then recommended that I write it. For years I had carried a desire to write a devotional book but never had the opportunity, now it was being offered to me!
 
The first time I sat in front of my computer to write the devotional I wasn’t sure I could. I felt empty and wondered if I had anything to say. After looking at a blank screen for a long time, a thought came to mind and I wrote it down. Soon another thought followed. Two weeks later the devotional book was completed.
 
It was during this time that God revealed something to my heart that turned me into a different writer…I saw a river! As I looked at the river the following conversation took place…
“What do you see?” asked the Lord.
“A river.” I replied.
“It is My creative river. It is the river of the Holy Spirit.” The Lord explained.
“What do you want me to do.” I asked.
“Get in.” He said.
“How do I do that?” I inquired.
“By faith.” He gently said.
That day, by faith, I stepped into God’s creative river!
 
The weariness I had previously experienced never returned.
 
Insight: Isn’t it wonderful that God sends rain (the Spirit) to bring refreshing and renewal in the time of our weariness.
