A Devotional Journey Through the Psalms: Psalm 113

Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
Praise the name of the Lord!
Blessed be the name of the Lord,
From this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its going down,
The Lord’s name is to be praised.
The Lord is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, Who dwells on high (Psalm 113:1-5).
 
 
Psalm 113 calls us to praise the NAME of the Lord. God is not an “it”. He is not a “what”. He is not a “that”. God is a person! He is knowable and He wants us to know Him in a personal way, in a loving way, and in a life-changing way. 
 
We will know more about WHO God is by knowing more about His name(s). There are an abundance of God’s names revealed to us in Scripture. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit each have their own personal names throughout the Bible. 
 
Here is a list of some of the names given in Scripture for each person in the Godhead. Read them, learn them, speak them, pray them, praise them!
 
God the Father
Adonai - LORD/MASTER - Isaiah 45:5
Yahweh - LORD - Genesis 15:1-2
El Shaddai – ALMIGHTY - Genesis 17:1
Elohim - LORD/GOD - Genesis 1:1
El Elton - GOD MOST HIGH - Genesis 14:18
Jehovah Jireh - THE LORD PROVIDES – Genesis 22:14
Jehovah Nissie- THE LORD MY BANNER - Exodus 17:15
Jehovah Shalom - THE LORD IS PEACE - Judges 6:24
El Hakadosh - THE HOLY GOD - Isaiah 5:16
Jehovah Rafa -THE LORD WHO HEALS.     Exodus 15:26
 
God the Son
Jesus - Salvation  Acts 4:12
True Light - John 1:9
Lamb of God - John 1:36
The Word - John 1:14
High Priest - Hebrews 4:14-15
Redeemer - John 10:17-18, Job 19:25
The Christ - Matthew 1:16
The Lord - Acts 16:31
Immanuel - Matthew 1:23
Alpha and Omega - Revelation 1:8

G  God the Holy Spirit
Wisdom and Understanding - He will help us see life from a kingdom point of view (Isaiah 11:2).
Comforter – He comes to our aid and brings God’s reassuring word (John 14:26).
Spirit of Adoption – He places us into God’s forever family (Romans 8:15).
Spirit of Christ – He imparts the life of Jesus into our hearts (Romans 8:9).
Eternal Spirit – He draws us to the things that last ever (Hebrews 9:14).
Spirit of God – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, created all things (Genesis 1:2).
Spirit of Grace – He strengthens and blesses us with God’s unmerited favor (Hebrews 10:29).
Spirit of Holiness – He works in us in ways that bring no sorrows or regrets (Romans 1:4).
Spirit of Life – He is the only one who can make everlasting changes within us (Romans 8:2).
Spirit of Truth – He is our guarantee that we will never hear a lie or be misled as we walk in the Spirit (John 14:17).
 
Seven symbolic names of the Holy Spirit
1.     Oil
2.     Dove
3.     Fire
4.     Water
5.     Wind
6.     River
7.     Dew
 
Insight: Praise to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—We have too much going for us to ever give up on anything or anyone!
