Timely Tidbits of Truth 65, Resist
-Roy Lessin, Meeting in the Meadow
This word is a
powerful weapon for victory in our warfare against the enemy. It means to take
a firm stand against what the enemy wants to do. It is important for us to know
that the Devil can be resisted. We do not have to be deceived by his lies or
overcome by his temptations.
The voice of
the tempter may say, “Do it now!” “Get it now!” Be it now!” To resist him means
to say “no” to his will and ways, and to say “yes” to God’s will and ways. You
can let your faith rise up and declare, “I will wait on God’s time.” “I will do
it God’s way.” “I will take my God-given place and be what He wants me to be.”
When we resist
the tempter we can also declare our devotion to God by saying, “Father, I love
You too much to do something that would be displeasing to You.”
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and
he will flee from you (James 4:7 NKJV).
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary
the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist
him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same suffering are experienced by
your brotherhood in the world (1 Peter 5:8-9 NKJV).
